What Is the Paris Agreement and How Does It Impact Global Climate Action?

Paris Agreement was adopted in December 2015 at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Conference of the Parties with the approval of 195 countries.

This agreement is a historical turning point in the global fight against climate change. As mentioned in our previous posts, the Paris Agreement is based on limiting the irreversible limit of temperature increase, which is crucial for all living beings, to 1.5 degrees.

The signing countries ensure that they will start efforts to reduce industrial carbon emissions by certain percentages by the year 2030.

Türkiye signed the Paris Agreement on April 22, 2016, during the High-Level Signature Ceremony held in New York, along with representatives from 175 countries.

The participation of China and the United States, which together account for approximately 38% of carbon emissions, adds to the significance of the agreement.
