Rainwater harvesting is the collection of water flowing from a structure or another surface for later use. In addition to common roof drainage models that involve collecting rainwater from the roof, large rainwater collection ponds are also being constructed.
Rainwater flows towards a storage tank after passing through water pipes and is stored there. The collected water can be easily used for daily tasks such as flushing toilets, garden irrigation, and cleaning in homes or businesses. This not only promotes water conservation but also grants the right to use free water.
The idea of rainwater harvesting often recalls images of an old farm cistern or the practices of developing countries. The reality is that rainwater harvesting is becoming a viable alternative to provide water for our homes and businesses.
It's not just for farms anymore! Germany, Australia, and Puerto Rico are examples of places where rainwater harvesting is widely used.
Thanks to the green building movement, efforts are being made to promote rainwater collection systems in many countries, especially in the United States and Europe.
In Türkiye, a rainwater harvesting project has been implemented in the village of Haydarlı in Aydın.
